Book of Mormon (the musical)

So, I saw the Book of Mormon musical... finally! I've tried to get lottery tickets about 5 times in New York and failed all 5 times. But my generous friend Dave took me to see in on opening night here in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre.

The show certainly dabbles into some uncomfortable territory for mormons (and possibly non-mormons). It hit close to home on multiple counts. It's not for the faint of heart, but I had a couple thoughts leaving the show on why people might want to or should see the show (in case you're on the fence). Firstly, mormons should see it just to get an outsider's perspective on how other people view the church. Likewise, non-mormons should see it to understand the unique community and cultural unity of the mormon people. Ultimately, it is a feel-good musical. You have to get through what some would consider crass and offensive, but in the end you feel good because the characters have found community, unity, and hope despite their wacky beliefs, they're wavering faith, their imperfection, and their screw-ups.
